In order to identify the social entrepreneurs within Ashoka's global Fellowship with the greatest potential for global social impact, the Globalizer team relies on nominations from across our entire network. At a glance, we are looking for Fellows who:
- Have successfully taken their idea beyond the proof of concept stage
- Have created a social innovation for which there is evident demand across the globe
- Have developed a realistic strategy for global scaling, and consider it their personal priority to see it through

DETAILED GLOBALIZER SELECTION CRITERIA
New Idea: Proof of Concept and Initial Scaling Success
What do we mean by that? Here are some aspects to consider – your Fellow may not necessarily excel on all, but you should feel generally comfortable that he or she meets the bar.
- Social innovation with powerful impact attested across multiple communities and several cities in home country
- Proven ability to work with partners and/or other indirect channels to extend impact
- Financial sustainability achieved in core operations and initial scaling efforts
- Demonstrated learning and development based on initial scaling experiences
Global Social Impact: Large Untapped Market Potential for Innovation
What do we mean by that?
- Evident demand for idea to flourish at its full market potential
- Full market potential of the innovation not limited to any given cultural, geographic, or linguistic context
- Value and nature of the idea make it suitable for widespread replication and adoption
Entrepreneurial Strategy: Capability to Embark on Steep Trajectory to Scale Impact
What do we mean by that? Here are some aspects to consider – your Fellow may not necessarily excel on all, but you should feel generally comfortable that he or she meets the bar.
- Innovation appropriately "packaged" to start scaling—clear understanding of what elements must be implemented directly versus what can be delivered through extensive use of indirect channels and partners to scale impact
- Clear understanding of scaling efforts' resource requirements, along with a realistic strategy to obtain those resources
- Ability to leverage experiences and learnings from other scaling efforts to facilitate this undertaking
- Demonstrated understanding of full market potential—which communities present greatest opportunity for spread, in terms of both impact potential and feasibility
Organizational Readiness and Personal Commitment to Achieve Full Market Potential
What do we mean by that?
- Commitment to make sufficient internal resources available to support a concerted scaling effort
- Personal commitment to engage actively in the Globalizer process, and to involve the most relevant members of organization
